Congress Adjourns Without Extending Bush Tax Cuts

Congress adjourned without extending the Bush Tax Cuts... What an act of cowardice. They decided to push it off until after the elections so their constituents won't know where they stand, which keeps us in the dark while Americans try to make an informed choice on November 2nd!

The Obama Administration continues to chastise the rich as villians and give people the impression we would have to borrow $700 billion to allow the rich to keep their portion of the cuts.

Here are some facts... Before the Bush Tax Cuts took effect, the top 1% of income earners paid 19% of all taxes. After the tax cuts took effect, they paid 36% of all taxes. The top 10% income earners paid 49% of all taxes paid before the cuts and after the tax cuts took effect, they paid a whopping 68% of all taxes paid.

These are the people who help create jobs and stimulate our economy! Why do we want to further burden them. And don't be mislead, if the tax cuts are not extended, every American will see a higher income tax bill in spite of Mr. Obama's pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class.

Congress is spending like never before and it has to stop!

Small Business Is Up Against The FUD Factor

I recently watched an interview with Bernie Marcus, founder of Home Depot. He talks about the disconnect between the current administration and small businesses. He points out that the package for small business Mr. Obama is pushing won't help small business... as an example, accelerated depreciation isn't going to help the restaurant owner. It's geared towards big businesses like General Electric, not the small businesses across our nation.

Bernie goes on to say that like me, he wants to see tax cuts for small business and he's all for keeping the "Bush Tax Cuts" in place! While the Administration would argue that only a small % of small business would benefit, Bernie tells it like it is... the Obama Administration is surrounded by the likes of Timothy Geithner & Larry Summers giving him economic advice when both have spent their lives in academia and haven't ever owned their own business. Obama doesn't have one business person advising him who could speak to business people!

We hear that banks aren't loaning money to small business. Bernie debunks that myth, just as I have heard from bankers across District 7. Banks are more than willing to loan to small business. Small business isn't willing to borrow. Why? Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt or as it's called, "The FUD factor".

Small business does not trust the future...they have no idea what's coming. New regulations are coming down the pike almost daily. They can't plan... they have no idea what Obamacare will cost them. They know that the Administration wants to hike taxes, so they wonder how this will impact their cash flow. They fear the national debt and deficit and worry whether inflation will raise its ugly head from so much borrowing.

The bottom line is we have to get rid of the 3 Legged Monster I talk about all the time and let small businesses grow and prosper. With it will come jobs and a stronger economy.

The Economic Summit in Richmond - Bring Out The Shining Star

I just finished up with attending the Economic Summit in Richmond! The business community is very optimistic about Richmond and its future... a feeling I strongly share!

During the summit, we did an exercise in groups to answer some questions...

What should we continue to do in Richmond?
Overwhelmingly, the answer was collaborate and gather to seek solutions and ideas. That's just what I have advocated and done in my campaign and will continue to do once elected. Listen to the constituents!

What is something we should begin doing?
Tell the positive side of the story as Richmond has plenty to offer! Likewise,
that's what I've found as I have campaigned over the last year and a half and learned more about Richmond. From a business standpoint Richmond has an excellent labor pool, a good manufacturing base and good transporation and logistics, all things that businesses look for in locating their facilities.

What is it we should stop doing?
Overwhelmingly again the business leaders said...Stop Procrastinating and do something! It simply underlines what people have been saying... George Miller has had 35 years to make a difference and hasn't gotten it done! I'm ready to help showcase Richmond as the shining star by the shore that it should be. There are so many positives about Richmond and with my help, it will shine brightly!

My First Debate With George Miller

Tuesday, I stepped in the ring with the 35-year incumbent heavy weight champ of District 7, George Miller. We had a half hour debate hosted by the Diablo Valley League of Women’s Voters. I had no idea what to expect. There was no audience, only TV crews. No staff was allowed, I was alone. All I could take with me were my wits and 21 years of military experience as a combat pilot into the unknown. Miller had all the advantages, he should have knocked me cold. I am sure that was his intent.

I am happy to announce, I am standing taller than ever and delivered quite a few blows myself to a title holder that has not had to defend his crown for quite some time.

Here is how the debate unfolded: Miller droned on-and-on about all his supposed accomplishments. He tried to monopolize the debate and was cut off several times by the moderator, Lisa Vorderbrueggen of the Contra Costa Times. I held my ground while championing common sense and fiscal responsibility.

When I said cutting food stamps to pay for his 26 billion dollar bailout was wrong, all he could do was say he “hoped” to replace the funding. When I told him cutting the funding to the troops was wrong and brought to mind the unfunded Continental Army freezing at Valley Forge while wrapping their bloody feet in the snow, all he could do was prattle about his opinion being right. When I told him his health care bill was the wrong way to reform our system and that the first priority should have been saving the $100 BILLION a year of fraud in Medicare, all he could do is say his amendment would save millions – not good enough George, only pennies on the dollar of what we should be saving. He also said his government run healthcare would save us money. REALLY? I countered that such a promise by our inefficient government doing anything cheaper was empty.

And finally in our closing statements, he spoke so quickly and angrily about all he has done for us, I could barely understand him as I sat 3 feet away. In my statement I dismissed all the government handouts he has so proudly paid for with borrowed money by pointing out the 13 trillion dollar debt that grows by over 2 million dollars every minute of every day. I declared we must rein in government spending so we can afford what we have. I pledged that fiscal responsibility will be my priority number one as our district’s representative, so that we can save this country from the economic cliff Miller has steered us towards. And finally, I proclaimed I will represent all of my constituents whether they are Democrat, Independent or Republican just as I had defended all American’s while serving in the war zones of Iraq and Afghanistan.

George Miller took his best shot, and I am still standing. I look forward to round two on September 8th, as we debate again at Travis Credit Union’s headquarters at 1 Travis Way, Vacaville from 6-7pm. (doors open at 530). After this last debate, the choice is clear – George Miller and more of the same, or Rick Tubbs and a new direction for our country that leads to responsible and accountable government for all Americans and our dreams.

As soon as I receive a copy of the tape, we will post it on our website for you to see. In the meantime, it will be run on cable TV as follows:
Concord TV Channel 28: 8/28, 8/30 & 8/31 at 4PM; 9/1 at 2PM
CCTV Comcast Channel 27, Astound Channel 32 & ATT U-verse Channel 99:
9/2-6PM, 9/5-9PM, 9/9-8PM, 9/13-8PM, 9/19-9PM & 9/27-9PM

The President Was Correct When He Said They Have The “Right” To Build a Mosque Near Ground Zero.

However, decency must accompany those rights. Our rights allow us to be offensive to anyone at anytime, but common decency keeps us from such destructive behavior.

Building a Mosque on the very grounds where 19 fanatic Muslims killed nearly three thousand people in their quest to follow the teachings they learned in a mosque is terribly offensive and lacks any shred of common decency or respect for the loss this country and those families experienced that horrible day.

And what is worse, our president has the gall to say he will not comment on the wisdom of building a mosque near Ground Zero. He won’t comment!? As the President of the United States of America, he should be the first to comment and be the leader of this great nation, but instead he choose to remain silent. He shrank from his duty to lead us in our time of need. That is just cowardice and America deserves better. I will comment on the wisdom of ignoring all common decency and completely disrespecting the loss of 3,000 innocent lives. It is wrong! It should not be done and shame on those who are trying to make it happen. It rubs salt in a healing wound and does nothing to bring peace or reconciliation. If that mosque is built, it will stand as a monument to the Muslim hijackers that brought misery to an entire nation. It will not be a triumph of tolerance or an exercise of American rights. It will be a constant reminder of what and who caused our pain that day. One of the most basic lessons of freedom is, “Just because you have a right to do something, doesn’t mean you should.” There has never been an more appropriate time to exercise this discretion.

Federal Workers Earning Twice As Much As Private Sector

Federal workers now earn twice that of the private sector. This is just another glaring example of the unsustainable path this government is on. That huge federal salary is paid for by your taxes!

Government jobs are now 52% (OVER HALF) of all the new jobs created in this country. We cannot afford this maddness. Government is too big, too expensive and will crumble under its own weight if we don't do something about it now.

George Miller continues to grow government. I will represent you by bringing government spending under control. Fiscal responsibilty is not a slogan, it is a missing necessity in our Congress.

This Is Our National Debt!

All that red!!! That is what my campaign is all about! The debt is unsustainable, and it's only getting worse! These numbers are wholely unacceptable. We must hold those in Washington D.C. accountable by replacing them with people who will do the hard work and make the tough choices to stop this negligent squandering of our future. These numbers won't change for the better unless we change the people responsible for them.
Failure is NOT an option! It is up to us, the American voter, to stop those that can't stop themselves. Retire George Miller, retire the debt, hire Rick Tubbs to get the job done!

I Met Carly Fiorina Last Night...

Kristi and I met Carly Fiorina last night at Herm Rowland’s (of Jelly Belly) fund raiser at his home. She is running on a very similar platform to mine. The American Dream is at stake.

More government spending is not the answer and makes our problems worse. She said there is $500 billion dollars of inefficiency in government spending - leg one of the monster, and she talked about her opponent being in Washington far too long (sound familiar). She also emphasized that she can beat Boxer if her message gets to the voters, which takes hard work and money.

After hearing Carly last night, I am an unwavering supporter. She is on the right side of the issues and I look forward to working with her in Congress to fix what is broke in Washington.

Americans & Small Business Owners (aka American Job Creators) - George Miller Once Again Stands In The Way of Your Success & Your Job!

JOBS JOBS JOBS! Why can’t President Obama and George Miller get it? America needs jobs! Obama and Miller want to double exports of American goods over the next 5 years. Those are great words and a worthy goal which I support. But actions are required not just words. I also support closing lucrative loopholes and tax payer funded incentives that support corporations moving American jobs overseas. But the progressives in Congress led by Miller, Pelosi and Reid are growing the 3 legged monster that is killing jobs instead of helping Americans get back to work.

How now you ask? HR 5982… A little background first. The health care bill coauthored by George Miller strengthened the job killing monster's second leg called “Excessive and Expensive Regulation” by adding a new requirement on small business to report business-to-business transactions as low as $600. A huge and expensive burden that just creates paperwork instead of jobs.

Dan Lungren, our congressman just to the east of us here in District 7 has been working hard to repeal this job killing regulation, but is getting no help from George Miller. The progressive led House attached Lungren’s bill to HR 5982, which is a tax increase (leg one of the job killing monster) on international business in an all too familiar attempt at Washington horse trading and manipulation.

George Miller tells you what you want to hear with his mouth, but uses his vote - representing you – in Congress to do just the opposite. Dan Lungren needs help to pass his job-creating repeal of this onerous regulation. George Miller won’t do it, but I will! On day one as you congressman, I will support a stand-alone bill that repeals this job killing regulation on small business.

There is a difference. Rick Tubbs represents jobs. George Miller represents more regulations and more government burden on you. You have a clear choice – VOTE RICK TUBBS, US CONGRESS!

Draining The Swamp - The Rangel Mess

Congressman Charlie Rangel is a prime example of what's wrong with Congress! On July 31, 2007, Nancy Pelosi said "we'll keep our promise to drain the swamp that is Washington D.C. to let sunshine disinfect the Congress". Now, three years later, there are still alligators in the swamp, who believe they are above the law and invincible.

13 ethics violations, including failing to report income from rental properties, using a rent stabilized apartment for campaign functions, soliciting donations from corporations and entities who appear before him and were lobbying him for favorable treatment, falsifying financial disclosures and more. His arrogance allows him to act as if he is entitled to special treatment and consideration, especially after having been in Congress for 40+ years... this while he heads the powerful House & Ways Committee, which oversees tax law and the IRS.

Increasingly, citizens see what's going on... it appears like "business as usual" in Washington and the Democrats are not eager to prosecute Rangel on these serious violations. Amazingly, there have been just 9 Democrats who have come out calling for his resignation, a number far short of what it should be.

Let's show Congress that we're not willing to accept "business as usual" in November. It is truly time to drain the swamp!

Congressional Budget Office Weighs In On Debt Once Again

While President Obama's Budget Director Peter give's his "swan-song" speech Friday, the Congressional Budget Office, which he formerly ran, beat him to the punch by announcing the U.S. is headed for a major "Greek-like" financial crisis if it doesn't get it's financial house in order. The CBO stated that interest payments on the debt may likely double to $900 billion annually by 2015 if we continue down this path. Their report looked at countries like Greece, Ireland and Argentina where those countries were faced with paying sharply higher interest rates. We've seen the predicament Greece is in with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) now telling them what to do... will this mean holders of U.S. debt such as Japan and China will look to tell the U.S. what to do within the next five years?

With the debt levels soaring, Moody's, the bond rating service, again warned that the U.S. is as risk of losing it's bonded AAA credit rating which we've had since 1913. This, along with our poor economy, could cause foreign nations to look elsewhere to buy bonds, causing U.S. bond interest rates to climb. The CBO says if interest rates climb, we could be paying $100 to $400 billion more per year in interest... money doing nothing for us but going down the drain!

When will Congress wake up and realize they can't keep spending and adding debt? Now is the time to make your voice loud and clear... WE'VE HAD ENOUGH!

Unemployment Benefit Extension Piles On More Debt

There was a huge sigh of relief for 2.5 million unemployed people who desperately needed an extension of their unemployment benefits as Congress passed a $34 Billion unfunded package.

Earlier this year the Senate passed and Mr. Obama signed a "Pay As You Go" rule, that required the government to pay for new spending, but yet we have another example of how the Democrats don't feel bound by the pay-go spirit!

Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., had proposed paying for an earlier (and costlier) iteration of the bill by rescinding $38 billion in "unobligated" stimulus money and imposing an across-the-board cut of 5 percent on non-defense government agencies. His measure was defeated.

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., proposed paying for the measure "with $40 billion in cuts (reducing unneeded government printing, cutting non-essential government travel, and eliminating bogus government bonuses) and revenue raisers (selling unneeded government property and collecting unpaid taxes from federal employees)." It too looks like it will fail.

When will Congress listen to people around the country, their constituents, who are screaming "no more spending"?

If we can get government off the backs of small business by eliminating the 3 Legged Monster, we can create additional jobs and reduce the need for unemployment benefits.

I continue to be the voice of reason... we cannot continue to spend and borrow on the backs of AmericanS and future generations. As your Congressman, I will fight tooth and nail to stop this madness!

TARP Watchdog Tells Administration Their Housing Bailout Does NOT Work!

Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general over the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), appointed by President Obama, harshly critisized the Obama administration yesterday telling them their main housing program "continues to struggle" and that the number of permanent loan modifications under the program is "anemic." This, after pumping $30 billion into the Home Affordable Mortgage program which the administration touted would help 3-4 million homeowners.

To date, 398,000 homeowners have received permanent mortgage modification, or approximately 12 percent of eligible delinquent homeowners.

In addition, 521,000 homeowners who were on the trial program were inexplicably dropped after 9 months and face foreclosure.

"Treasury's refusal to provide meaningful goals for this important program is a fundamental failure of transparency and accountability that makes it far more difficult for the American people and their representatives in Congress to assess whether the program's benefits are worth its very substantial cost," the report reads.

Once again we are seeing this administration treat TARP like its own personal slush-fund which is a complete betrayal of what the American people were told when the plan was initiated to bail out Wall Street firms.

Indeed, these are VERY substantial costs which, once again, are being pushed onto our children and grandchildren leaving them with what will be insurmountable debt.

Thank God The Spill Is Finally Contained In The Gulf. Let's Continue To Pray That It Stays That Way!

So now that the crisis is over, let's assess our President's performance.

The press was all over President Bush for his handling of Katrina, yet Bush got involved, fixed the mistakes and got results. Say what you will about George Bush, but he showed leadership after Katrina and the folks in the Gulf benefitted from his response. Obama's answer is a knee-jerk reaction to stop drilling for 6 months and George Miller's is to punish BP with a 7 year moritorium on American leases for drilling. Does that make you feel better?

How do you think it makes the thousands of newly unemployed oil workers in the Gulf? Way to go Obama and Miller - way to send those good paying oil jobs over seas. The Gulf has been hit hard economically by this spill and our president and congressman's answer is to hurt them more.

Did you notice how no other country on the planet punished BP or stopped their off shore drilling? Of course not, and now with America denying access to its oil, companies will just go elsewhere to drill and hire other countries' workers. 10% unemployment and your president and congressman only make it worse. Our sacrifice in jobs will not serve the greater good. It will only reduce the unemployment rate in Brazil.

Have you had enough yet? If so, let's at least vote Miller out this November. Vote Rick Tubbs for Congress.

Democrats Including George Miller Pass Fake Budget to Hide Their Gross Mismanagement of Your Money

By the slimmest of margins (215-210), House Democrats passed a non-existent $1.12 trillion budget. The Democrats' "deemed as passed" resolution is missing the most basic elements of a standard budget that is expected each year: total outlays, total federal revenue, total proposed changes to revenue, total deficit levels, and total debt levels.

So as Connie Hair of Human Events so aptly points out "never before -- since the creation of the Congressional budget process -- has the House failed to pass a budget, failed to propose a budget then deemed the non-existent budget as passed as a means to avoid a direct, recorded vote on a budget, but still allow Congress to spend taxpayer money."

This latest "trick" to dump more debt on our children by being even more irresponsible with our tax dollars is flat out corruption! They have no restraint. They are worse than spoiled little brats who just want their way and don't care what the consequences are. Except we, the American people, keep paying the price for their lack of sensibility. It is up to us, the ones paying for their mistakes to finally make them pay the consequence of losing their job. They, the big government, big spend, big tax, big debt, out of touch politicians that are failing to carry out the responsibility we elected them to do. It is up to us now. If we re-elect them i.e. George Miller, again, we have only ourselves to blame.

Another point, Obama claims bipartisan support when he gets one Republican vote (Olympia Snow) yet 38 Democrats and every Republican voted against this. Is this bipartisan opposition? That is what I call it, but it is still a minority. Is it November yet? Everyone who reads this post, you are needed to help this country. You are the one that will make the difference. We cannot sit on the sidelines anymore and hope it gets better because it won't unless you do something about it. Helping me beat George Miller would be a great place to make your difference! http://www.ricktubbs4congress.com/

Get Ready For Another $20 Billion Of Debt Created By Your Congressman George Miller

BP cut off from new US oil drilling leases: California Democrats pass Miller amendment!

California Democrat Rep. George Miller created the amendment so that the government would have more control over BP. Separately, Democratic lawmakers pushed ahead with proposals that would punish the British oil giant for its role in the worst U.S. offshore oil spill ever.

I absolutely believe BP should be punished, but what Miller and the Democrats have done is kill thousands of American jobs and jeopardize BP's ability to pay for their mess. Does that make you feel better? It does make the debt clock spin faster. Way to go George. More government, more debt, more of the same. We can't afford George Miller for another 2 years

9 States Join AZ In Fight Against Pres. Obama & Illegal Immigration!

Michigan is the lead state backing Arizona in federal court and is joined by Alabama, Florida, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia, as well as the Northern Mariana Islands.

"Arizona, Michigan and every other state have the authority to enforce immigration laws, and it is appalling to see President Obama use taxpayer dollars to stop a state's efforts to protect its own borders," Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox said in a statement.

That's a total of 10 with more on the way. There are 18 states opposing Obama on healthcare. Not since the Civil War has this divide between the states and the federal government exisited. In 1861, the states were wrong. This time they are right!

Does this strike anyone else as a terrible way to run a country?

Obama Sues Arizona Over Immigration Law?

Really, Obama sues Arizona over their immigration law? Fine, then he better sue every sanctuary city in the country too. If this country is ruled by law and not the whim of its president, then Obama must treat sanctuary cities just like Arizona. If Obama does not care about the our country's laws, then he will persecute Arizona and continue to ignore San Francisco, LA and all other cities flagrantly disobeying federal law.

Obama showed his disrespect for the law when he question the street cop in Massachusetts before knowing all the details, again in his public and partisan rebuke of the Supreme Court during the state of the Union address, again in his attempt to try terrorists in New York civil courts and now his latest partisan attack of Arizona.

Obama has shown a clear trend to pick party politics over American law. I wonder what George Miller thinks about it? He hasn't said much. Let my position be loud and clear... I completely disagree with such disregard for the rule of law and believe it is wrong. All Americans should be protected by the law equally. That is what separates a free nation from a dictatorship. Last I checked, America is the land of the free. Let's keep it that way!

Urgent Call To Action

I hope you have had a nice rest from campaigning. Rest assured I have not! :} We’ve been putting the plan together for Operation VICTORY MARCH and it is looking good.

Here is some news not all of you have heard yet. I have a campaign manager, Mark Gigliotti. He's a great guy and huge help. Don’t worry, Kristy is still plenty involved, but we need to grow the team to beat Miller and Mark is a tremendous addition.

I will be passing more opportunities to help on the campaign soon, but here is what we need right now.

Contra Costa County is getting National attention because David Harmer has a statistical advantage to win in CD-11. That is great for David, great for Republicans and great for us. As they help David in Contra Costa, we get a chance to show everyone at the RNC and State party that we are serious and can beat the Democratic icon, George Miller.

Our first chance is to have a huge turnout of volunteers this Saturday (details below). It starts in Danville, but we will be walking our districts in Clayton. This is a huge opportunity to get some attention for our race. Quite frankly, I have not made much headway with the party as they have no idea what is going on out here. I keep beating on the door, but here is our chance to send the message loud and clear that Team Tubbs is serious and worth their support.

I will be meeting with Tom Del Beccaro (CA State party #2) on Thursday telling him about our great volunteers and how you are the reason we won the primary in a landslide and why we will win in November, so I need you to back me up with a few hours of your time Saturday morning. Please come out and make us look good. Send this note to all of your friends on Face Book or email list. This will pay off big in the weeks to come.

RSVP to me at rick@ricktubbs4congress.com or call me at 707 628-7589. I need your address, so we can give you your own precinct to walk as well.

I cannot stress the importance of this enough. If you can, please come Saturday and show that Team Tubbs is serious about beating Miller. I believe with every bone in my body – WE CAN WIN!!! But I do need your help to do it. Wear your Team Tubbs shirts if you have one (or any red T-shirt) and I’ll bring some on Saturday as well.

Thank you all so much for your support,
-Rick

Democrat Majority Adds Piggy-Back To Troop Funding

AP reports "The Democrat majority is treating this troop funding bill like a cash-cow for their election-year wish-list" said Rep. Jerry Lews, R-Calif. Top Democrats such as Obey and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., insist on adding the domestic dollars, viewing the war funding bill as their last, best shot to resuscitate their faltering jobs agenda.

Democrats with super-majorities can't pass their big government/big debt programs, so they piggy-back their pork on the backs of our military while we are at war. This is unconscionable! It's exactly what is wrong with Washington!

A minority of Democrats given power through their majority positions are forcing their unpopular agendas that would never be approved by sneaking them into legitimate bills. They rule through deceit and guile instead of leading the American people with sound arguments and popular support. This is NOT America! And on this day after we celebrated our Declaration of Independence, we must once again declare we will not be ruled by unaccountable tyrants that govern at their whim. We must take back this country from those like Nancy Pelosi and George Miller who only serve their special interests. The good news is WE CAN this November. Our WIN in District 7 will replace Miller with a leader who will lead us in the right direction. Vote Rick Tubbs!
