Congress Adjourns Without Extending Bush Tax Cuts

Congress adjourned without extending the Bush Tax Cuts... What an act of cowardice. They decided to push it off until after the elections so their constituents won't know where they stand, which keeps us in the dark while Americans try to make an informed choice on November 2nd!

The Obama Administration continues to chastise the rich as villians and give people the impression we would have to borrow $700 billion to allow the rich to keep their portion of the cuts.

Here are some facts... Before the Bush Tax Cuts took effect, the top 1% of income earners paid 19% of all taxes. After the tax cuts took effect, they paid 36% of all taxes. The top 10% income earners paid 49% of all taxes paid before the cuts and after the tax cuts took effect, they paid a whopping 68% of all taxes paid.

These are the people who help create jobs and stimulate our economy! Why do we want to further burden them. And don't be mislead, if the tax cuts are not extended, every American will see a higher income tax bill in spite of Mr. Obama's pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class.

Congress is spending like never before and it has to stop!

Small Business Is Up Against The FUD Factor

I recently watched an interview with Bernie Marcus, founder of Home Depot. He talks about the disconnect between the current administration and small businesses. He points out that the package for small business Mr. Obama is pushing won't help small business... as an example, accelerated depreciation isn't going to help the restaurant owner. It's geared towards big businesses like General Electric, not the small businesses across our nation.

Bernie goes on to say that like me, he wants to see tax cuts for small business and he's all for keeping the "Bush Tax Cuts" in place! While the Administration would argue that only a small % of small business would benefit, Bernie tells it like it is... the Obama Administration is surrounded by the likes of Timothy Geithner & Larry Summers giving him economic advice when both have spent their lives in academia and haven't ever owned their own business. Obama doesn't have one business person advising him who could speak to business people!

We hear that banks aren't loaning money to small business. Bernie debunks that myth, just as I have heard from bankers across District 7. Banks are more than willing to loan to small business. Small business isn't willing to borrow. Why? Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt or as it's called, "The FUD factor".

Small business does not trust the future...they have no idea what's coming. New regulations are coming down the pike almost daily. They can't plan... they have no idea what Obamacare will cost them. They know that the Administration wants to hike taxes, so they wonder how this will impact their cash flow. They fear the national debt and deficit and worry whether inflation will raise its ugly head from so much borrowing.

The bottom line is we have to get rid of the 3 Legged Monster I talk about all the time and let small businesses grow and prosper. With it will come jobs and a stronger economy.

The Economic Summit in Richmond - Bring Out The Shining Star

I just finished up with attending the Economic Summit in Richmond! The business community is very optimistic about Richmond and its future... a feeling I strongly share!

During the summit, we did an exercise in groups to answer some questions...

What should we continue to do in Richmond?
Overwhelmingly, the answer was collaborate and gather to seek solutions and ideas. That's just what I have advocated and done in my campaign and will continue to do once elected. Listen to the constituents!

What is something we should begin doing?
Tell the positive side of the story as Richmond has plenty to offer! Likewise,
that's what I've found as I have campaigned over the last year and a half and learned more about Richmond. From a business standpoint Richmond has an excellent labor pool, a good manufacturing base and good transporation and logistics, all things that businesses look for in locating their facilities.

What is it we should stop doing?
Overwhelmingly again the business leaders said...Stop Procrastinating and do something! It simply underlines what people have been saying... George Miller has had 35 years to make a difference and hasn't gotten it done! I'm ready to help showcase Richmond as the shining star by the shore that it should be. There are so many positives about Richmond and with my help, it will shine brightly!
